Equine and Fine Wine Event

Wednesday, September 17, 2014 - An Equine and Fine Wine event for the whole community.

Image by Lisa of L'immaginaria. Find her  on her own website and on Facebook

It is really quite simple - come to the Rural Creators' Collective shop about 10:30 a.m.. have a free sample cup of tea from Terra Teas - Organic while you browse the horse-related (and wine-related!) items in the handmade-locally and eco-friendly shop. Then you will be given an equestrian trivia quiz and puzzle to solve. Hand them in. Then go on down the road to M2 stables to see Esther Mortimer, two time Pan-Am games dressage rider (and recent double champ at Palgrave!) and her coach and husband Harper MacKenzie put a few horses through their morning paces. The winner of the RCC quiz will then be announced, and he or she gets their photo taken with Esther and her Pan-Am horse, taken by professional photographer, Yvonne Parsons Photography. Everyone then goes to Cascata Bistro, for a late lunch, where owner and manager Angela Checchia will present the winner with a free bottle of delectable wine, a few other free gifts are given as table favours from the Rural Creators Collective, and there are lovely flowers from Carlisle Flowers. Cascata is offering lunch to everyone at a remarkable 15% off, too! What a fun, educational and contact-building equestrian day to celebrate Carlisle and community...

And here's a sampling of the items you can find at the shop...
Yes, that's a horse themed soap! by Wintermoon Soaps (find them on Facebook)

Pottery by Natalie of Remembrances (on Facebook and AtTheCrossroads on Etsy) with a nod to the equine theme.
Also nodding to the theme...this great painting by Trinity Artists.

 And various horse-related items.

Come on out and enjoy the day!

Yvonne Parsons Photography - April Featured Artist

A little eye candy for you today.  Yvonne, April's Featured Artist at the Rural Creators' Collective is an absolutely amazing photographer.
She has the ability to capture landscapes with amazing detail...

...and has an unbelievable eye for what will make a great shot.

You can check her Facebook page for many of the sepia toned portraits she captured at last year's Carlisle Country Craft and Old-Fashioned Market Mercantile (pssst:  she's a returning vendor this year, so make sure you come see her and get an awesome portrait/family picture done).

Not limited to landscapes, of course - she's great at product photography...

 ...and pet portraits.

Yvonne will be at the Rural Creators' Collective on Sunday, April 13th from noon until 2:00 p.m. doing Easter portraits.  You can schedule an appointment by emailing her at yvonnephotos@teksavvy.com

OR, if you visit her Facebook page and leave a comment in the caption contest for this photo, you could WIN your portrait sitting for FREE and also have an upgrade to an 8 x 10 print.
How amazing is that?

New Year's Resolutions

A friend of mine told me the other day, that January 9th is the day that 75% of New Year's Resolutions fail.  I'm not sure how accurate that is, or how it was determined, but if you need a little boost for your own resolution, read on.

If your resolution was to save money, maybe (like so many of us) you need a little extra help.  This toonie bank has to be smashed to get your savings out.  All the more incentive not to go raid it when you are short  $2 for your morning cup of coffee.  It may seem counter intuitive to pay for a "piggy" bank when you want to save money, but if you KNOW you are going to raid a standard piggy bank, then this might be just the thing...Natalie, of Remembrances estimates it will hold roughly $1000.00 when full of toonies.  Great to get kids learning to save too.
This is a picture of Mr. William Power, #2 in the Pod Collection by Remembrances before it was bisque fired.  It is available in the shop glazed, or unglazed, depending on how easy or difficult you want it to be to smash.

If your resolution was to relax, keep calm, and not stress out about things that pop up, maybe a little visual reminder would help.  Julie, of Rustic Revivals (on Etsy, and on Facebook) made up this little number, but feel free to contact her if you have a particular saying in mind...she's open to custom orders.

If your resolution was to take better care of yourself, what better place to start than your "outer shell".  Tara of On A Branch Soaps (on Etsy and on Facebook) has a full line of items to treat your skin well this winter.  With names like Monday Morning, Clean Sweep, Simply Lavendar, and Winter Chai, you are sure to find one to suit.  She also makes lip balm, cuticle balm, skin balm and even deodorant.

If your resolution was to be more "green" or environmentally friendly, Miriam of Minimade (on Etsy and on Facebook) has re-usable gift bags in multiple sizes, some of which are large enough to be used as totes for your groceries.

If your resolution was to let the creative juices flow, stay tuned for a great DIY idea coming this week.

And, if your resolution was to spend more quality family time together ---the date has been set for this year's Carlisle Country Craft and Old-Fashioned Market Mercantile.  If you are on Facebook, you can go to this page to get all the information, and updates as the show approaches.  It's August 23rd and 24th and promises to be a great event for the whole family.
I will leave you with a shot of last year's pie eating contest at the show - fun for all ages, I tell you.
